DTEK reports Dnipro-area power disruption after overnight attack
DTEK said its November 8 estimate covered residents in Dnipro and the surrounding region, while President Zelenskyy called for coordinated sanctions.
The numbers
- People DTEK said were without electricity across the Dnipropetrovsk region, including Dnipro
- >600,000 residents
More than 600,000 residents of Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region were left without electricity after an overnight attack damaged energy facilities, power company DTEK said in a November 8 update.
The company’s reported total included people in the city of Dnipro and the districts of Pavlohrad, Samar, Kamianske and Dnipro. DTEK said electricity workers were carrying out repairs, but repeated attacks were making the work more difficult. The company identified power to critical infrastructure as the first priority in its restoration effort.
In a separate message on November 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was counting on a strong 22nd European Union sanctions package. He also called for sanctions to be synchronized across Europe and Group of Seven jurisdictions, according to his public channel.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine had imposed sanctions in October on individuals and entities he linked to Russian ballistic-missile production, the restrictions he wanted partners to align.
What we don't know yet
- How much power has subsequently been restored in the affected region?
- What sanctions measures, if any, will European and G7 governments adopt or coordinate?
